Billy Covington
Billy Covington, affectionately known as “Billy C,” is the smooth, soulful voice from the multi-platinum R&B group Hi-Five—and now, he’s stepping into a bold new chapter as a dynamic solo artist. Blending timeless R&B with Afro-Latino rhythms and global influences, Billy’s sound is fresh, yet rooted in the emotional storytelling that made R&B legendary.
From humble beginnings performing in small venues to selling out Wembley Arena in London, sharing the stage with Tony! Toni! Toné! and Bobby Brown at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and opening for Janet Jackson with Teddy Riley at Essence Festival in the New Orleans Superdome—Billy’s journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.
A native of New York, Billy found his passion for music early. In the mid-90s, he relocated to New Jersey to fully pursue his dream, eventually earning the respect of the industry through talent and determination. Over the years, he’s collaborated with heavy hitters like DJ Eddie F, Donell Jones, Sheldon “So” Goode, and Grammy Award-winning producer Darren Lighty. These experiences shaped him into the seasoned artist he is today.
Billy's voice—a fusion of velvet smoothness and heartfelt conviction—has graced the stages of iconic venues including Nells, Webster Hall, and Village Underground. His performances are known for their warmth, authenticity, and soul-stirring delivery.
Influenced by musical giants like Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye, Prince, and Quincy Jones, Billy's music carries depth, elegance, and emotional resonance. His upcoming work represents the evolution of a true artist—one who honors the past while fearlessly embracing the future.
Billy’s new single “Forever” is a declaration of that evolution—a seamless blend of classic R&B soul and Afro-Latin grooves that signals his intention to captivate a global audience.
Though embarking on a solo journey, Billy remains a proud member of Hi-Five, continuing to perform the beloved hits that made the group a staple in R&B history. Whether on a world stage, or an intimate setting, Billy Covington brings his whole heart to the music.
This is more than a comeback—it’s a renaissance.
Experience the evolution. Experience the soul. Experience Billy Covington.
Platinum Group Hi-Five
Hi-Five is an American R&B quintet from Waco, Texas. Hi-Five had a No. 1 hit on Billboard's Hot 100 in 1991 with "I Like the Way (The Kissing Game)".
The band was originally formed in 1989 as a trio: childhood friends Tony Thompson, Russell Neal, and Oklahoma native, Toriano Easley. Jive Records suggested adding childhood friends, Roderick "Pooh" Clark and Marcus Sanders, to the ensemble and later signed these founding members as Hi-Five.
In 2012, Irby, Shannon Gill and Marcus Sanders reformed Hi-Five with two new members, Andre Ramseur (aka Dre Wonda) and Faruq Evans. They released a single called "Favorite Girl" also on the BMW label. Ramseur later left the group and was replaced by Billy Covington.
